The Lazarus Parable Poverty Scam—Exposed
The Lazarus Parable Poverty Scam—Exposed 🏦🔥
Christians sometimes come up with the most bizarre interpretations of Scripture. I nearly fell out of my chair when I found out that some use Lazarus and the Rich Man to preach a "gospel of poverty." 🤦♂️
Imagine reading a passage about heaven and hell and coming away with "God wants you broke." What kind of brain gymnastics is that? 🤸♂️ Let’s fix this by tweaking the story a little.
Lazarus & the Rich Man—Solomon Edition 👑💰
Once upon a time, there was a rich man. He dressed in purple, lived in luxury, and feasted like a king. At his gate lay a beggar named Lazarus, covered in sores, hoping to eat scraps from the rich man's table. Even the dogs felt sorry for him. 🐕
Then both men died. But plot twist! Lazarus was carried to Solomon's side, and the rich man found himself in hell. Cue the begging.
🔥 "King Solomon, help! Send Lazarus to cool my tongue!"
Solomon tries to respond, but he’s buried under a mountain of gold. Two hours later, after digging himself out, he finally catches his breath.
🏆 "Son, remember—on earth, you had your good things, while Lazarus suffered. Now he is comforted, and you are in agony. Also, there’s a huge chasm, so no one can cross over."
The rich man pleads: 🙏 "Then at least send Lazarus to my family to warn them!"
But Solomon, choking on gold dust, replies: 💎 "They have Moses and the Prophets. Let them listen to them. Or do what I did—hire five hundred scribes to read Scripture to them 24/7. Easy."
🔥 "No, King Solomon! If someone rises from the dead, they will believe!"
Solomon trips over a giant gold bar, falls into a swamp of precious stones, and starts sinking. Lazarus tries to pull him out, but both sink together. As Solomon vanishes into the abyss, he shouts:
💀 "If they don’t listen to Moses and the Prophets, they won’t believe even if someone rises from the dead!"
Do You See It Now? The Poverty Gospel Is Absurd.
If the parable was written this way, the "poverty gospel" scam would collapse overnight. Why?
Because the man in paradise is Abraham. You know, the guy so wealthy that kings feared him? The guy who had servants, livestock, gold, silver, and military power? (Genesis 13:2, 14:14)
If wealth itself was the problem, Abraham should be burning in hell next to the rich man! But he isn’t. Why? Because this parable isn’t about money.
It’s about:
✔️ Faith & obedience to God.
✔️ The hardness of the human heart.
✔️ The reality of heaven and hell.
Not some twisted "God wants you to struggle" nonsense.
Poverty Isn’t Holy—Obedience Is.
The Bible never condemns prosperity—it condemns greed, pride, and neglect of the poor. Abraham was rich. David was rich. Solomon? Overflowing with wealth. Yet they were blessed because they walked with God.
Meanwhile, plenty of poor people go to hell. Lazarus didn’t make it to heaven because he was broke. He made it because he was righteous in God’s sight—and the rich man was not.
So next time someone tells you "God wants you poor", hand them a Bible and say:
📖 "Read it again, slowly."
